Recycling Center Separation Guidelines Effective November 1, 2001 - October 31, 2002 Hours are every Saturday 8:00 - 12:00 Summer hours beginning the last Wednesday in April and ending the last Wednesday in October are from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. IN ORDER TO USE THE RECYCLING CENTER, A VALID CAR STICKER MUST BE DISPLAYED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. These stickers may be purchased annually, along with the initial yellow (color to change yearly) punch card for $40.00. The car sticker is effective November 1st each year. Families with more than one vehicle per household may purchase additional stickers for $1.00 per sticker. For senior citizens, 65 years or older, this initial yellow punch card and sticker will be $20.00. Each additional yellow punch card is $40.00 and MUST BE PURCHASED at the town office when needed or by mail if more convenient. Each card will allow you to dispose of 20 bags in the compactor. Only four purple cards issued in 2000 - 2001 will be exchanged for new 2001 - 2002 yellow cards. No other color will be allowed for exchange. YELLOW LARGE APPLIANCE CARDS, issued in packets prior to 1997, will no longer be accepted. You may pay for your large appliances at the recycling center or the town office. Due to an incident at the recycling center, patrons are reminded to dispose of any needles, razor blades or any other sharp objects into a separate container. Do not dispose of them directly into a bag for the compactor. RECYCLING CENTER FEE SCHEDULE 1.Demolition material $22.00/cu.yd. *++ 55 gallon bag of demolition $5.00 each ++ 32 gallon bag of demolition $3.00 each ++ Minimum charge for any use demolition dumpster $1.00 *++ 2.Demolition material for contractor working for a Stamford resident $22.00/cu. yd *++ (Property owner must purchase the ticket) 3.Non-Freon large appliances (Stoves, Washers, Dryers) $10.00 each *++ 4.Any item containing Freon as a coolant (Refrigerator, Freezer, $35.00 each *++ air conditioner, dehumidifier) 5.Room size rugs, stuffed furniture, mattresses, televisions, $5.00 each *++ stereos, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners 6.Small chairs, coffee or end tables, strollers and auto batteries. $2.00 each *++ 7.Tires (Car & Pickup Trucks without rims) $3.00 each *++ Tires (Car & Pickup Trucks with rims) $5.00 each *++ Tires (For large trucks without rims) $10.00 each *++ 8.Small handheld propane tanks. MUST BE EMPTY and used oil filters. $1.00 each *++ Large propane tanks and vehicle gas tanks will not be accepted. 9.Empty Paint Cans $1.00 each * ++ * May paid for at the Town Office ++ Exact fees will be accepted by the Recycling Monitor ********* NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS WILL BE ACCEPTED ******** Waste oil will not be accepted. Waste oil may be returned to the store where you purchased it, they are required to take it back if returned in approved containers. RECYCLED MATERIAL OPEN-ENDED FOOD GRADE TIN CANS - (or other metal products) Wash, clean, remove labels, and flatten if possible. GLASS - ALL COLORS Wash, clean, remove labels and metal neck rings when possible. Place in recycling container. Remove covers and place in demolition container. PLASTIC MATERIALS - WASH, CLEANED, WITH NO RESIDUE OF ANY KIND. Items with recycling symbol place in recycling container. Any item without the symbol place in demolition container. Plastic bags are not recyclable. ALUMINUM CANS - Wash, clean and place in aluminum can container. FOIL BAKING PANS AND ALUMINUM FOIL Wash clean, flatten and place in aluminum foil container. Foil coffee or similar wrappers are to be placed in demolition container. NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINES, BOXBOARD, CORRUGATED CARDBOARD, BOOKS AND MIXED OFFICE PAPER (office paper, school paper, and junk mail excluding envelopes with plastic windows) Place in paper bag not plastic and stack neatly in the recycling shed.All boxes contaminated with food, soap or wax coated, place in compactor. Books may be placed on shelf in shed for others to use. SCRAP METAL Metal of all types (white goods, appliances of all sizes, buckets, shovels, auto parts, wire, and mail boxes) will be stockpiled. DEMOLITION CONTAINER AEROSOL CANS - MUST BE EMPTY CERAMICS, POCELAIN, PLATE GLASS (WINDOW GLASS), LIGHT BULBS,AND DISHWARE - Do not mix these items with recycled glass as listed in above. DEMOLITION REFUSE Includes any trash that cannot be recycled including lids for glass jars and bottle caps, ceramics, window glass, light bulbs and dishware. HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES DEMOLITION DUMPSTER             $1.00 Minimum Charge DEMOLITION MATERIAL - NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. PERMIT REQUIRED Obtain a permit at the town office. The minimum charge will be $22.00 per cu. yd. includes composition shingles, tar paper, broken up sheet rock, building material, concrete, bricks and masonry. Place in demolition roll off.     Pickup truck with 8 ft bed - 3 cubic yards $66.00     Pickup truck with 6ft bed - 2.5cubic yards $55.00     Compact Pickup - 2 cubic yards $44.00 PAINT AND STAIN CANS - MUST BE DRY AND EMPTY. Remove lid and place both lid and can in demolition container $1.00 per can. COMPACTOR Only non recyclable materials. Please separate carefully. CAT LITTER No clay litter will be accepted. Please use rabbit pellets, sawdust or newspaper, then dispose of it in the compactor.
